Friendship Garden Hike

On our last day of freedom before heading back to school and work, we headed over to Kaneohe to hike the Friendship Garden hike. All of my students kept telling me how easy it was to hike and how pretty the views were from the top. Well, they were right about the views.
Here is the trail head - hidden in the back of a tiny neighborhood.
The only other sign a little ways in to signify that this was, indeed, a trail head.
My tree! Mine!
Will taking a rest in a conveniently placed pagoda. Mini bridge over a non-existent stream.
Up, up, up we go on the muddy trail.
Halfway there and already the views are pretty spectacular.
The top at last! To the right, Kailua Bay...
...straight ahead, the marine corps base...
...and to the left, Kaneohe Bay.
A surprise hibiscus flower on the trail.
Here I am...just happy to be at the bottom of the trail again. The hike was beautiful, but I must be either out of shape or just getting older. The slippery trail and crumbling rocks certainly took their toll. Pass me the Advil please.
