We just discovered THE coolest website out there! www.neighborhoodfruit.com
The site shows you where there are nearby fruit trees free for the picking. Some are private trees (but the owners allow picking), and some are on public land. It's nation-wide and although it's a fairly new site, we already found some free avocados, and lemons on the Bay Area's map and quite a few on the UH campus near us!
We just registered our avocado, papaya, lemon, tangerine, and mango trees. It will be so nice to share our harvest and share in other people's yummy fruit. Hopefully you all will get a chance to check out the site and see all the free fruit nearby!
