What a fun-filled few days it's been! A few days ago, some of Jim & Maria's friends, Susan and Paul Yao, came over to check out our new house. Here we are - striking a pose in the backyard.
They were so sweet and just gushed about the house, the yard, the food (yes...there is always food). It was fun to have them over.

Maria and Susan even did hula in the backyard!Yesterday, all four of us hopped in the car and meandered our way up to the North Shore to watch some gnarly waves, brah. Will even caught a few waves...with his camera.
It's so hard to see the true ginormousness (Yes, it's a word. One of the perks of being an English teacher is that I am allowed to make up new words). The waves had 14-18 foot faces and there were tons of little surfer ants out there catching them. This dude below got flipped around a bit on the waves and had to come in for a beer. Poor guy.
After watching the surfers, we all headed up to Hale'iwa (Hah-lay-ee-vah) town to do some epic shopping. We went into about five or six super cute boutiques and bought jewelry and some beautiful wave art (you'll have to visit us to see it). After about the fourth shop, though, Will and Jim decided shopping was best left to the women - wise choice. They hung out on the convenient benches placed outside of each store and soaked up the sun.
We went to Breakers, a small surfer bar, for lunch and had mac-nut crusted chicken, blackened mahi cobb salad and mahi fish n' chips (in honor of Eileen and Josh).
We sat and ate on the lanai (above) and enjoyed the wild chickens who passed through (below).
When we got back home, we spent some much needed energy on weeding the vegetable garden (from left to right: kula tomats, waimanalo salad greens, summer squash, eggplant, cucumber and arugula). It's much more organzied than it looks...promise.
Will had the difficult task of watering of our stick tree (that will someday become a beautiful rainbow shower tree - full of pink and orange blossoms). Right now it's just a huge stick in the front yard. But we have faith in its will to live and water it faithfully every day. We're told we might have a leaf in the next two months. We wait anxiously for its appearance.
Here are the other trees we planted (which are doing much better at the moment) - three baby manilla palms. They are thriving and send up new shoots all the time. Go figure, palm trees like this climate!
And speaking of thriving...here is our INSANE mandarin orange tree that is about to fall over with the weight of all the oranges. Below is a pic of just one tiny branch on the tree that we had to tie back with ropes and bungie cords. We've estimated that there are about 70 or 80 more ready to ripen. Anybody want some oranges?
And finally, the much anticipated pic of the addition. The angle of the picture makes it look bigger than it actually is. It is an amazing space and fits in so nicely with the rest of our house. We'll take more shots (that show the rest of the house, too) very soon.

I want oranges! AND, we had fish 'n chips last night, which we actually rarely eat. In fact, I think this is only the second time we've had it.
